About the position

The Off-shift Azure Data Engineer role involves hands-on backend software engineering in an agile environment, focusing on database engineering and cloud architecture. The position requires working with multiple programming languages and frameworks, primarily in Azure, to design, develop, implement, and maintain solutions that support various projects, including Digital B2B eCommerce and Order Gateway processing applications. The engineer will be responsible for off-hours deployments, running ETL pipelines, and addressing failures across applications and the datahub platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain solutions in Azure using Azure SQL, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and GraphQL.
  • Deploy production services in a cloud environment, ideally Azure, including Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory, Azure Batch Service, and Azure API Management.
  • Work in an agile fashion to develop, estimate, test, and maintain backend systems, collaborating on product backlog grooming and sprint planning.
  • Contribute to development best practices and code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed and proper tests are written.
  • Communicate effectively with associates and business contacts to promote teamwork.
  • Foster an innovative culture with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Design high-performing queries and views, and perform performance tuning of queries.
  • Design efficient database schemas and create data-driven unit tests for validating SQL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or comparable work experience.
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a hands-on Backend Software Engineer in an agile environment.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL, Python, and C#.
  • Experience with ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks.
  • Familiarity with architectural patterns including Data Warehousing, Medallion Architecture, Microservices Architecture, and Event-based Architecture.
  • Experience with source control using Git.
  • Strong data modeling and lineage background.
  • Experience deploying production services in a cloud environment, particularly Azure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cloud experience with Azure (Web Apps, Terraform, Azure DevOps, DBT).
