About the position

The Office Administrator at Lutheran Church of the Cross plays a vital role in supporting the mission and vision of the congregation. This part-time position is designed for an individual who can work independently while fostering a collegial environment. The Office Administrator will be the central point of communication for the church, building and nurturing relationships between the congregation and the wider community. This role requires a blend of administrative skills, organizational abilities, and a commitment to the church's mission. The Office Administrator will handle a variety of responsibilities that include managing communications, maintaining the electronic membership database, and supporting the Business Manager with financial data entry. The position also involves creating worship aids, managing electronic communications, and overseeing the church's website. Additionally, the Office Administrator will coordinate life-event ministries such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and will be responsible for recruiting worship assistants and providing support to ministry staff and lay leaders. This role is essential for ensuring that the church operates smoothly and effectively, allowing the congregation to focus on its spiritual mission. The Office Administrator will report directly to the Lead Pastor and will participate in regular performance reviews to assess their effectiveness in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position. Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls and e-mails, greeting members and visitors positively.
  • Maintain the electronic membership database and keep ministerial acts up-to-date.
  • Support the Business Manager by inputting weekly financial giving into member management software.
  • Create and produce worship aids including print and electronic media (bulletins, announcement inserts).
  • Create and execute weekly and monthly electronic communications.
  • Support the maintenance of the church website.
  • Schedule and coordinate life-event ministries including baptisms, weddings, funerals, and facility rentals.
  • Oversee and execute strategies for recruiting weekly worship assistants.
  • Support ministry staff and activities when called upon.
  • Provide office support to lay leaders and their work for the church.
  • Maintain print and electronic records of congregational meetings.
  • Maintain inventory of office, kitchen, and custodial supplies.

Requirements

  • Education and experience in office administration and clerical work.
  • Trustworthy, highly organized, self-motivated, and creative.
  • Strong computer and Microsoft Office 365 skills; ability to learn member management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member within a staff.
  • Professionalism and integrity on the job and in daily life.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
