About the position

The Office Claims Adjuster at Ally Financial is responsible for investigating, valuating, negotiating, and settling property and casualty claims within a predetermined settlement authority. The role emphasizes customer service, ensuring claims are handled promptly and equitably while adhering to policy provisions and regulatory guidelines. The position requires effective communication and negotiation skills to provide a positive customer experience and maintain thorough documentation of claims.

Responsibilities

  • Handles intake of first notice of loss reports.
  • Conducts investigations independently and at the direction of management utilizing sound investigative procedures to establish liability as quickly as possible.
  • Negotiates settlement of claims with insureds while following established, authorized settlement authority.
  • Handles questions on coverage.
  • Maintains a complete and thoroughly documented claim file ensuring claim files are properly documented and all supporting documents are attached.
  • Uses compassionate communication and persuasive negotiation to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Treats customers in a courteous, friendly and professional manner providing timely, thorough, accurate information and assistance.
  • Works closely with the field appraisers to ensure accurate and timely damage evaluations.
  • Adjusts reserves to accurately reflect the exposure and issue payments to the appropriate parties.
  • Identifies subrogation and/or salvage situations in a timely manner to protect the interests of the Corporation and requests documents needed to process titles and salvage of vehicles.
  • Handles all claims within the guidelines of the state's Fair Claims Practices Acts and other Regulations while also ensuring timeliness and KPIs are being met.
  • Maintains an up-to-date diary.
  • Maintains necessary licensing and continuing education.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ years of claim adjudication experience required.
  • 1+ years in customer service or financial services industry is required.
  • Multi-state adjuster license required.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of insurance law as it relates to claims.
  • Prior Property and casualty experience preferred.
  • Ability to take detailed statements and demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply written coverage accurately to establish claim and determine an action plan.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and empathize with customers is critical, treating customers in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
  • High degree of analytical, negotiation and organizational skills.
  • Typically requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.
