About the position

The Office Manager at St John's United Church of Christ is responsible for the efficient administration of the church office, ensuring a welcoming environment for visitors and members. This role involves providing administrative support to the Pastor and Church Council, managing office operations, and coordinating volunteer activities. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a hospitable presence to visitors and members.
  • Administrative support for the Pastor.
  • Coordinate, recruit, and train volunteers.
  • Administrative support for the Church Council.
  • Cover the main office and respond to phone calls, emails, and visitors.
  • Ensure dependable office technology and supplies, including computer network and software tools.
  • Organize, update, and maintain church files, records, and membership information.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly office environment.
  • Perform financial data entry.
  • Maintain the building calendar and coordinate building use by various groups.

Requirements

  • Office management experience, preferably in a large church or non-profit setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and foster teamwork.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively to diverse groups and across generations.
  • Previous experience managing hourly employees and scheduling.
  • Experience training and coordinating volunteers.
  • Familiarity with PC environments and competency with database software and Microsoft Office.
