About the position

The Office Manager at Scotts Miracle-Gro is responsible for overseeing the administration of all plant objectives, including financial management, safety, associate development, quality control, and customer service. This role involves supervising office staff, managing customer service functions, maintaining personnel and payroll records, and ensuring the smooth operation of accounts payable and receivables. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills to foster team rapport and achieve operational goals in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise work activities of the office staff, including assigning and directing work, interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating performance.
  • Develop and encourage team rapport among office staff.
  • Provide secretarial support including typing, data entry, record filing, and answering phone calls.
  • Direct customer service functions for growing media orders, including processing orders and responding to inquiries.
  • Maintain plant personnel records, workers compensation records, accident and OSHA logs, and enter data for the payroll system.
  • Prepare all shipping documents necessary for legally shipping growing media products.
  • File and track freight rates, fuel taxes, insurance certificates, and maintain the Gelco account.
  • Perform dispatching duties such as contacting carriers for pickups and deliveries, and arranging delivery appointments with customers.
  • Maintain and reconcile accounts payable and receivables at the plant level, including processing logs, filing invoices, and maintaining petty cash.
  • Assist other supervisors and/or the Plant Manager in the overall operation of the facility and perform special projects as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of office experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, including prior supervisory experience.
  • Experience in logistics and/or dispatching.
  • Working knowledge of customer service, purchasing, distribution, marketing, and financials.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work extensive overtime and effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • An Associate's Degree in Business or Accounting preferred.
  • Knowledge in freight cost controls, dispatching, LTL carriers, accounts payable, and payroll.
