About the position

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM) is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as the Office of Engagement Program Administrator. This role is centered around inspiring under-resourced children to explore careers in veterinary medicine through our initiative, The League of VetaHumanz. This unique program serves as a veterinary superhero league, providing role models and veterinary lessons aimed at helping children and their animals maintain good health. Our ultimate goal is to promote a diverse and inclusive veterinary profession, giving children a sense of belonging and equipping them with the STEM skills necessary for success in the field. In this position, you will act as a liaison, collaborating with partners in academia, industry, government, and community organizations nationwide. Your responsibilities will include launching role model teams and delivering our curriculum to elementary school students. You will also play a key role in leading the local delivery of the program, contributing to the creation of educational resources for children, and managing various community engagement initiatives. This multifaceted role requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and a passion for education and veterinary medicine. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community engagement, program management, and education, with a focus on under-resourced populations. You will be expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that all initiatives are executed effectively and on time. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as you will be interacting with diverse groups of people, including children, educators, and community leaders. Your ability to think creatively and work independently will be crucial in developing engaging educational materials and resources that resonate with elementary school-aged children.

Responsibilities

  • Support The League of VetaHumanz by providing role models and veterinary lessons to children.
  • Serve as a liaison to partners in academia, industry, government, and community organizations.
  • Assist in launching role model teams and delivering curriculum to elementary school students.
  • Lead local delivery of the program and manage community engagement initiatives.
  • Create educational resources for children to promote veterinary medicine careers.
  • Manage grants and complex processes related to community engagement programs.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in veterinary nursing, elementary education, social work, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in developing and implementing community engagement programs or as a veterinary professional.
  • Experience working with under-resourced elementary-school-aged children in a classroom or community setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a variety of age groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and program management experience.
  • Development of educational materials for elementary school-aged children.
  • Diversity and Inclusion training experience.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem solve under pressure.
  • Attention to detail and competency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a veterinary nurse or in a veterinary medical practice.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English languages.
  • CITI training.
