About The Position

The Office of Internal Affairs Investigator position is responsible for conducting internal investigations within the Department of Adult Correction in North Carolina. This role involves handling sensitive and high-profile cases, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, and maintaining confidentiality throughout the investigative process. The investigator will work primarily in the central region of the state and may require extensive travel and overnight stays. This position is eligible for a flexible/hybrid telework schedule and is a full-time role with state benefits.

Requirements

• Experience investigating administrative, internal, or criminal complaints.
• Knowledge of methods, procedures, and practices used in investigations.
• Understanding of laws governing investigations of administrative, internal, or criminal complaints.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience preparing written investigative reports.
• Experience in criminal justice, human resources, or law enforcement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify potential witnesses and schedule interviews.
• Establish rapport with witnesses and subject employees.
• Examine records and interview staff, offenders, and law enforcement officials.
• Prepare comprehensive internal investigative reports.
• Handle case evidence in accordance with policy and procedures.
• Conduct EEO investigations related to discrimination in employment.
• Interpret and communicate relevant division policies and procedures.
• Apply analysis and judgment in investigating allegations of unacceptable personal conduct.
• Maintain detailed and organized records of investigations.
• Present effective testimony in hearings related to internal complaints.
