About the position

The Proposal Analyst at the Colorado School of Mines is responsible for assisting faculty in developing and submitting research proposals to external funding organizations. This role involves advising faculty on funding sources, ensuring compliance with regulations, and creating accurate budgets. The Proposal Analyst serves as a key resource in the administration of sponsored research, maintaining databases, and facilitating communication between faculty and external agencies. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while ensuring the successful submission of proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage submissions for complex research grant proposals, ensuring compliance with School, state, and sponsoring agency regulations.
  • Review and determine the completeness of proposals, confirming all requirements are met and necessary forms are prepared.
  • Submit approved proposals by the sponsor mandated deadline.
  • Coordinate the proposal submission process for subrecipients and subcontractors.
  • Work with faculty to create institutionally approved proposal budgets, verifying allowable costs and institutional resources used for cost matching.
  • Perform cost negotiations with project sponsors, justifying costs and explaining school policies.
  • Determine proposal prioritization based on sponsor deadlines and complexity.
  • Provide training to Proposal Analysts and faculty on proposal requirements and federal regulations.
  • Establish and document efficient business policies and procedures for the proposal team.
  • Ensure accurate data entry into the institutional data repository and track proposals through the system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • 1-4 years of experience in research administration, depending on the rank of the position.
  • Knowledge of regulations governing sponsored research.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to critically analyze information and make independent decisions.
  • Skill in establishing a cooperative work environment and solving problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in research administration, business administration, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in research administration.
