About the position

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry level technical work in installing, implementing, troubleshooting, and testing of the statewide network premise and outside plant structured cabling systems.
  • Learn to build the Structured Cabling Systems of telecom networks, such as Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and Cable TV (CATV).
  • Learn to install a variety of various trade size conduits, conduit parts, innerducts, and innerduct systems.
  • Learn to install, splice, and terminate fiber optic cable both multimode 62.5/125 50/125 and single mode 7-9/125.
  • Learn to install a variety of copper DATA/Telecommunication cabling to include UTP, STP, FTP, Coaxial, and other multi pair cabling.
  • Learn to install and terminate a variety of copper connectors, plugs, blocks, and panels.
  • Learn about testing and troubleshooting using a wire mapper, power source & toner, or multimeter.
  • Learn to install and build pathways and spaces for cabling installation.
  • Learn to install firestop systems to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Learn to build and install Bonding & Grounding Systems for Structured Cabling Systems (SCS).
  • Learn to install a variety of networking equipment and peripherals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license and dependable transportation are required.
  • Travel to various State Agencies, which may include Department of Corrections and/or State Hospital Facilities.
  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.
  • This job requires overnight travel.
  • Training: Associate degree from an accredited college or university with nine (9) semester hours of computer science/Information technology.
  • OR Substitution: High school diploma or the equivalent AND completion of certificate.
  • OR Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in information, telecommunication, or wireless technology, and/or information related fields.
