About the position

The Transportation Tech 1 position at the Office of Traffic Operations in Eatonton, GA, is an entry-level role focused on providing technical support in traffic signal maintenance and repair. Under direct supervision, the technician will learn to install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices and related equipment, while also operating various types of maintenance equipment. The role requires the ability to respond to signal malfunctions after hours and involves physical demands such as working at heights and lifting heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices and related equipment under direct supervision.
  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as derrick trucks and aerial basket trucks.
  • Respond to reports of signal malfunctions after normal business hours as an on-call technician.
  • Possess knowledge in basic AC/DC voltage circuits and standard electrical codes/guidelines.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct and communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's license within 6 months.
  • Possess physical strength and agility necessary to lift heavy equipment and work at heights above 30ft.
  • Knowledge of basic reading, writing, and mathematical computations.
  • Ability to receive and respond to verbal communications appropriately.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical degree certificate or diploma in electric systems, electrical contracting, HVAC systems, or related field.
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft Office or related software.
  • Knowledge of standard traffic control procedures and guidelines as per the MUTCD.
  • Ability to accurately locate information on highway/roadway plans and electrical diagrams.
