About the position

The Office Surveyor / Survey CAD Specialist at Bechtel is responsible for providing survey computations and drafting support to the construction survey team. This role involves interpreting design drawings, supervising field survey teams, and ensuring the quality and integrity of the surveying program. The position will initially be based in Houston, TX, before transitioning to the job site in Brownsville, TX for the execution of the Rio Grande LNG Project.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Survey Manager (PSM) with the overall quality and integrity of the Office Survey surveying program.
  • Implement the project safety, quality, and environmental programs with the survey team.
  • Administer the Survey Work Request program.
  • Ensure survey office calculations support the construction schedule.
  • Review and approve survey data from field crews, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Provide technical support to the survey team, including data processing and preparation of deliverables.
  • Verify the project's Survey Control Networks and perform network least squares adjustments.
  • Identify underground services and maintain as-built drawings for excavation permitting.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with 3D Survey CAD software for layout data and drafting.
  • Provide Civil project completion data and documentation, including 'As-Built' records.
  • Support 3D Laser Scanning operations and UAV (Drones) program.
  • Perform calibration checks of survey instruments and train less experienced team members.

Requirements

  • Engineering/Technical degree and 6 years' experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying, including 3 years' supervisory experience, or 12 years' experience with at least 5 years' supervisory experience.
  • Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering Survey experience with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping installations.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's 'Zero Incidents' safety program and quality standards.
  • Solid record of successful project completion with minimal rework.
  • Knowledge of construction survey principles and supervisory functions in industrial surveying.
