About the position

The Officer / Engineer Field Technology position at CN is responsible for developing and adapting technological advances for the inspection of railroad infrastructure. This role involves maintaining current technology deployments, conducting data analysis of inspections and operational performance, and ensuring accurate interpretation of field conditions. The incumbent will manage supplier performance and oversee project deliveries, contributing to the safety and efficiency of railroad operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and execute processes and procedures to operationalize technology.
  • Coordinate with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform diagnostics and minor maintenance on technology systems and rail car components.
  • Coordinate with parties for platform access and material availability to minimize impact on testing operations.
  • Perform data analysis to ensure product performance and validate back-office data for accuracy.
  • Verify field verifications behind testing systems and track findings for continuous improvement.
  • Handle project resources to ensure proper interpretation of business requirements and adherence to timelines.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and track ongoing performance.
  • Create reports and recommendations for senior leadership regarding technology acceptance.
  • Perform engineering analysis of proposed autonomous test systems for safe operations in the railroad environment.
  • Review specifications and standards for compliance and modify as necessary.
  • Supervise and approve the construction process to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of engineering field experience.
  • Experience with railroad inspection systems, operations, and functions.
  • Experience with diesel engines, power distribution systems, rail car maintenance, or mechatronics.
  • Experience with technology research and development.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with railroad equipment.
  • Understanding of CN Engineering Track Standards.
  • Expertise in operating track geometry collection systems and analyses.
