About the position

The OGC Counsel - Conflicts is a key member of Latham & Watkins' Conflicts team, responsible for addressing professional ethics conflicts and compliance issues related to lateral clearances, new business matters, and outside counsel guidelines. This role requires a deep understanding of legal ethics and professional responsibility rules, advising Ethics Committee Members and attorneys while ensuring adherence to firm policies and procedures. The position offers flexibility in working arrangements, allowing for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing situation-specific conflicts checks as needed
  • Reviewing outside counsel guidelines, non-standard engagement letters, and RFPs received from clients, and working with partners to prepare responses to clients that align with firm policies
  • Advising attorneys and others in regards to engagement letters, conflicts waivers, ethics walls, and firm policies
  • Performing legal research and analysis on professional responsibility issues as requested by the Deputy General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel - Conflicts and Ethics, or Ethics Committee Members
  • Preparing and delivering trainings for attorneys and staff on topics relevant to conflicts, ethics, and professional responsibility
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

Requirements

  • A JD or an equivalent
  • Active status with and admittance to the relevant state bar in a jurisdiction where Latham & Watkins has an office
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience practicing law and/or working on an ethics conflicts team, preferably in a global law firm setting
