About the position

As a Senior Estimator at Black & Veatch, you will play a crucial role in the preparation and direction of various types of cost estimates, including lump sum, unit rate, and cost-plus estimates. Your responsibilities will range from conducting simple cost analyses to developing definitive estimates that support proposals, project controls, and change orders. This position is integral to our operations, as you will be working closely with project teams across our three market sectors: Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. Your expertise will contribute to exciting projects that span from small community improvements to large-scale mega projects, all aimed at building a world of difference through infrastructure growth and development. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all estimates are complete, accurate, and aligned with project requirements. You will plan, coordinate, review, and analyze all aspects of estimates, providing technical advice and assistance to project managers. Additionally, you will direct, train, and develop subordinates, maintaining the company’s estimating database and ensuring the orderly flow of project assignments. Your ability to appraise the overall accuracy of estimates and recommend contingencies will be vital in managing project risks effectively. You will also be expected to champion continuous improvement efforts within the estimating process, identifying opportunities that add value and supporting change management initiatives. Responsibilities

  • Prepares cost estimates on proposals, projects, and studies ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Plans, coordinates, reviews, verifies, and analyzes all aspects of estimates and their presentation.
  • Directs, trains, and develops subordinates in estimating practices.
  • Maintains the company estimating database and coordinates variable estimating factors with Engineering Operations, Procurement, and Construction.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to Project Managers in preparing estimates of varying complexity.
  • Appraises overall accuracy of estimates and recommends contingencies for various types of bids.
  • Ensures orderly flow of project assignments in accordance with schedules and manpower budgets.
  • Assists the Chief Estimator with independent assessments of estimate accuracy upon completion.
  • Recommends detailed estimating procedures and techniques for development of estimates.
  • Assists in planning and developing formal training programs to improve estimating techniques and capabilities.

Requirements

  • 8 to 20 years of relevant experience, including some estimating experience.
  • Field and/or project experience is required.
  • BS or MS in Construction Management or a related field is preferred but not required.
