About the position

The Oil Refinery Operator I at Veolia North America is responsible for operating and maintaining sludge, de-watering treatment, processing, disposal, and testing equipment in a refinery or industrial facility. This role is crucial in ensuring that operations meet customer specifications under direct supervision. The operator must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment, meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets. This includes equipment such as pumps, centrifuges, valves, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed systems, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, measuring/control devices, testing equipment, and material handling equipment. In addition to operating equipment, the operator is expected to maintain a clean work area, collect liquid and solid samples, perform routine sampling testing, log and record process readings, and assist in facility equipment preventative maintenance. The role requires a team-oriented mindset and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed. The physical demands of the job include wearing personal protective equipment, lifting and carrying heavy loads, and working in various environmental conditions, including loud, cold, hot, wet, and dry environments, both indoors and outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain sludge, de-watering treatment, processing, disposal, and testing equipment in a refinery/industrial facility.
  • Independently operate assigned machines and equipment to meet processing and quality targets.
  • Work in a team environment and assume additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Keep the work area neat and clean.
  • Collect liquid and solid samples and perform routine sampling testing.
  • Log and record process readings and perform unit rounds.
  • Assist in facility equipment preventative maintenance and general maintenance of facility equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Some experience in a related position and environment preferred.
  • Ability to use computer programs for process control.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English operational, process, safety, and quality instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC.
