About the position

As an Engagement Manager at Oliver Wyman, you will play a pivotal role in leading consulting projects within the Communications, Media & Technology (CMT) and Private Capital sectors. This position is based in our San Francisco office, where you will collaborate closely with industry leaders to develop value growth strategies, enhance operational effectiveness, and maximize organizational performance. Our clients include some of the most successful companies in the world, spanning various sectors such as telecommunications, media, technology, and private equity. In this role, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day leadership on client projects, guiding Associates and Consultants, and managing client relationships. You will work alongside Partners to ensure the success of engagements, leading complex programs to meet project goals and deadlines. Your expertise will be crucial in influencing clients and becoming a trusted advisor throughout the commercial process. You will also be tasked with identifying new business opportunities and creating intellectual capital through thought leadership. As an Engagement Manager, you will oversee the consulting team, helping them develop insights and produce deliverables. You will support project execution through effective project management, including work planning and coaching junior team members. Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership of client projects to Associates and Consultants.
  • Manage aspects of the client relationship and commercial process within those relationships.
  • Team with Partners and share responsibility for the success of specific engagements.
  • Lead and manage complex programs to ensure on-time delivery that meets agreed-upon goals.
  • Guide and influence clients across all situations, becoming trusted advisors.
  • Engage in business development by identifying new and expanded opportunities for clients.
  • Create intellectual capital through thought leadership and knowledge on adjacent topics.
  • Develop others and build a followership as part of asset building for the firm.
  • Lead firm-building activities and serve as a role model for firm values.
  • Oversee and guide the consulting team in developing hypotheses and conducting client interviews.
  • Support Partners in project execution through excellent project management.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of relevant experience in strategy consulting with a top-tier strategy consulting firm or similar organization.
  • Track record of leading and managing teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Professional working experience with exposure to commercial due diligence in a management consulting firm.
  • Experience working with both CMT and Private Equity clients.
  • Knowledge and in-depth experience with customer research techniques (interviews, surveys, focus groups, etc.).
  • Strong background in strategic problem solving with demonstrable analytical skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Client management experience.
  • An undergraduate or advanced degree from a top academic program.
  • A passion for the creative process and expansive thinking.
  • Impeccable judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Highly motivated and committed to excellence.
