About the position

This role is responsible for maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment in a manufacturing facility. The electrician must understand the operation of electrical systems and make sound decisions regarding their maintenance and repair. Effective communication and work relationships with team members and supervisors are essential for success in this position. The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, depending on the tasks at hand.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain electrical, instrumentation, and control systems on equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and actively participate in safety programs designed to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, electrical systems, control panels, various instrumentation devices, and other control system components.
  • Interface with supervisory personnel about equipment conditions and problems in the electrical systems.
  • Maintain, repair, and install plant lighting.
  • Utilize electrical/electronic prints/schematics, ladder logic, plant computer systems, the current National Electrical Codes, and test equipment to complete assigned tasks.
  • Take electrical call outs and complete all jobs as assigned.
  • Enter and perform work on work orders assigned and plan/schedule additional work as needed.
  • Understand the purpose of Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance and participate in these programs.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and functional condition.
  • Locate parts and reference part numbers.
  • Accurately enter data into computer and complete daily paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Ensure attendance and participation in training activities appropriate to the position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 5+ years related experience and/or training
  • State issued electrical license preferred
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical safety practices
  • Comprehensive understanding of DC voltage systems (0 to 240V) and AC voltage systems (24 to 4160)
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
  • Ability to use voltage testers, meggers, amp probes, and other electrical test equipment
  • Basic math skills and ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, read a tape measure, and measure with calipers
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Competent computer skills
  • Ability to safely lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in extreme environments: hot, cold, wet, slick floors, and uneven work surfaces
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, catwalks, and maneuver in close quarters
  • Understanding and safe operation of hand, power, and shop tools
  • Ability to read and understand basic electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
