About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all financial and fiscal management aspects of a local non-profit organization. This role involves directing accounting, finance, treasury, information technology, and risk management while collaborating with the President & CEO and senior management to develop financial goals and strategies. The CFO plays a crucial role in ensuring financial stability, facilitating growth, and managing resources to align with the organization's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial information and support to the President & CEO and the Board in formulating and executing financial strategies.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with senior leaders to develop accurate financial plans.
  • Prepare financial statements, analyze performance, and recommend strategies for revenue generation and cost control.
  • Prepare forecasts for business growth and monitor financial indicators and market trends.
  • Create long-range financial plans based on strategic initiatives and operating needs.
  • Oversee all financial activities including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Implement policies and procedures to streamline workflows and ensure compliance with regulations and GAAP.
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP and oversee the annual audit and Form 990 preparation.
  • Establish financial internal controls and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Provide timely financial reports and analysis to inform senior leadership and the Board.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and funding sources to ensure compliance and transparent reporting.
  • Optimize resource allocation and evaluate systems for cost savings and revenue expansion.
  • Complete financial analyses of cash flow, investment strategies, and debt management.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance revenue cycle management and billing practices.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and maintain appropriate cash reserves.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a CFO or in a senior financial management role, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practices.
  • Experience with financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Ability to develop financial strategies that align with organizational goals.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with fundraising and grant management in a non-profit context.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements for non-profits.
  • Advanced degree in finance, accounting, or business administration.
