About the position

The OMN Illustrator position at Oregon State University (OSU) is a part-time role responsible for creating illustrations for editorial content and marketing campaigns. The Illustrator will collaborate with student leaders from various publications and is expected to produce high-quality illustrations while managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines. This role emphasizes inclusivity and equitable representation in design and content creation.

Responsibilities

  • Produces illustrations in both color and black and white that are either created digitally or drawn and scanned.
  • Creates accurate and impartial illustrations that fairly represent the story and the people involved.
  • Meets tight deadlines and manages multiple projects effectively.
  • Attends meetings and trainings as required.
  • Acts in a professional manner and maintains collegial working relationships with student staff, clients, partners, and the community.
  • Responds to emails, messages, team chats, and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN.
  • Leads and represents OMN enthusiastically, fostering an inclusive culture.
  • Ensures designs and content are centered on equitable representation and inclusion.
  • Follows and enforces all OMN policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • High School students must be regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program.
  • Undergraduate students must complete 6 credit hours per term; international students must complete 12 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate students must complete 5 credit hours per term; international graduate students must complete 9 credit hours per term.
  • Knowledgeable of or willing to learn the SPJ Code of Ethics.
  • Able to think creatively and innovatively.
  • Able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends and academic breaks.
  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills with clients and coworkers.
