About the position

The On-Call Biological Monitor/Fishery Biologist position at Alluvion Biological Consulting involves monitoring construction activities and conducting various field studies related to environmental compliance. The role requires a strong academic background in biological sciences and practical experience in ecological consulting, particularly in California's ecosystems. The position is seasonal and on-call, with responsibilities that include conducting surveys, water quality sampling, and preparing technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field studies including special status fish surveys and monitoring.
  • Perform nesting bird surveys and special-status species surveys.
  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Conduct water quality sampling.
  • Assist in the preparation of wildlife survey reports and biological resources reports for CEQA/NEPA compliance.
  • Prepare biological assessments and wildlife management plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biological Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience identifying fish and wildlife species in the field.
  • Background in ecology or wildlife management with knowledge of California's ecosystems.
  • Ability to prepare or assist with CEQA/NEPA documents and biological assessments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with clients and agencies.
  • Good critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with state and federal environmental laws.
  • Experience with GPS/GIS and mapping software.
  • Strong bird identification skills and experience conducting nesting bird surveys.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in biological studies or related field.
  • Experience with California Tiger Salamander and other HERPS.
  • Experience with California red-legged frog and Foothill yellow-legged frogs.
  • Experience with burrowing owl and other listed species.
