The On-Call Classroom Substitute plays a crucial role in supporting and supervising students in the absence of a classroom team member. This position is essential for maintaining a consistent and effective learning environment for students with diverse needs. As an On-Call Classroom Substitute, you will perform the duties of classroom staff members when they are unavailable. This includes following the directions of the teacher or acting teacher, adhering to lesson plans, and ensuring a cohesive learning experience for all students. You will be responsible for managing the classroom effectively, encouraging student participation, minimizing distractions, and maintaining a positive learning environment. Adapting teaching methods to fit the needs of each student is vital, as is supervising students in various settings, including hallways, playgrounds, cafeterias, and car lines. In addition to classroom management, you will implement individual behavior plans as needed and provide basic caregiving duties, such as changing diapers, feeding children, and ensuring hygiene. Communication with therapists and members of the multi-disciplinary team is also a key aspect of this role, as is maintaining positive interactions with staff and parents. Compliance with UCP, HIPAA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal guidelines is essential. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall mission of UCP of Central Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Perform classroom staff member duties in their absence.
  • Follow direction of the teacher/acting teacher including following lesson plans to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each student.
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom including in the halls, on the playground, cafeteria and car line.
  • Implement individual behavior plans as needed.
  • Ensure and provide basic caregiving duties for children, including changing diapers, feeding children, and cleaning children's hands and faces.
  • Assist in communication with therapists and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPAA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum - G.E.D or High School diploma.
  • If subbing for PreK - 45 Hour Department of Children and Family Training within first 90 days.
  • 1 year or more childcare or classroom experience.
  • Prefer experience working with students with and without disabilities.
