About the position

Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School is seeking an On-Call Substitute Teacher to join our dedicated team in New York, NY. This position is crucial for maintaining the continuity of education in the absence of regular teachers. The On-Call Substitute Teacher will be responsible for implementing lesson plans and providing instruction as directed by the absent teacher. In the absence of a lesson plan, the substitute will consult with the principal or other responsible staff to ensure that students receive quality instruction. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching and possess a strong understanding of child development, ensuring a respectful and orderly classroom environment. The On-Call Substitute Teacher will also be responsible for maintaining classroom procedures, keeping accurate records of attendance, accidents, and incidents, and ensuring the safety of students at all times. This role requires excellent communication skills to interact positively with parents, students, and administrators. The substitute teacher will help supervise students during class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment. Responsibilities

  • Implement and teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, or consult with principal or other responsible staff if lesson plan is not provided
  • Maintain a respectful and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the school
  • Leave notes for the teacher at the end of the teaching day
  • Communicate in a respectful and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators
  • Keep records on attendance, accidents and incidents
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • Help supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required (Associate degree preferred)
  • 2+ years experience working with students
  • Receptiveness to ongoing coaching and evaluation
  • Passionate about teaching
  • Energetic, motivated, innovative, prepared
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Compassionate attitude and strong understanding of child development
