About the position

The On Call Substitute Teacher at Hillside School District 93 is responsible for providing instruction and managing the classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role involves following lesson plans, maintaining a positive learning environment, and ensuring student safety while upholding school policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Teaches scheduled classes and prepares a written summary of work completed.
• Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.
• Follows the teacher's lesson plans and consults with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns.
• Complies with all building procedures and schedules, promoting the proper use and care of school property.
• Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
• Implements effective pupil management procedures and maintains high standards of student conduct.
• Develops and maintains a positive learning environment and works cooperatively with staff and parents.
• Incorporates the effective use of available technology and upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
• Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information and ensures staff/student safety by not leaving students unsupervised.
• Supervises non-classroom duties when assigned and accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
• Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Requirements

• Valid ISBE endorsed Substitute Teacher License, Professional Educator License, or approved Short Term Substitute License.
• Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and maintain confidentiality of student matters.
• Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
• Professional appearance, attitude, and demeanor.
• Agreement to authorize Hillside School District 93 to conduct a criminal history search via fingerprinting.
