About the position

The On-Site Adjunct Social Sciences Instructor at Pierce Mortuary Colleges is responsible for creating an effective learning environment for students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, and fair assessments. The role involves developing course syllabi, teaching course materials, grading assignments, and providing academic support to students. The instructor will work under the supervision of the Academic Dean and is expected to maintain high standards of student satisfaction and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Develops the syllabus for each course assigned based on Pierce Mortuary College (PMC) criteria.
  • Distributes the syllabus to the Academic Dean and to each student on the first day of the term through the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Teaches the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog.
  • Prepares and grades examinations based upon course objectives and published exam schedule.
  • Provides grades to all students by established timeframes.
  • Implements evaluation for outcomes assessment and achieves established results.
  • Works creatively in all classes taught to discourage student withdrawal and maintain satisfactory retention.
  • Begins and ends each class at the designated times, providing a full period of instruction.
  • Provides tutorial assistance and academic advising to all students when needed.
  • Leaves the classroom or laboratory clean, organized, and ready for the next user.
  • Submits final grades for all students on the class roster at the designated time.
  • Maintains attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy.
  • Calls all students who are absent and submits written reports of pertinent information to the Academic Dean.
  • Hosts at least 1 office hour per week.
  • Attends faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Dresses professionally in accordance with the faculty dress code.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • At least 18 graduate level semester hours in the field of study related to the course (Psychology or Sociology).
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs.
  • Teaching and facilitation skills.
