About the position
Prisma International is seeking qualified professional interpreters to join as Independent Contractors, providing on-site interpretation services for government clients. The role involves facilitating communication between English speakers and Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals across various languages, ensuring accurate and respectful interpretation in diverse settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide consecutive or simultaneous on-site interpretation between government representatives and non-English speakers.
- Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speakers and LEP individuals.
- Maintain correct grammar, clarity, and tone in both languages during interpretation.
- Follow the speakers' direction and manage the flow of conversation professionally.
- Refrain from side conversations with LEP individuals and avoid disagreements with customers or LEP speakers.
- Comply with applicable ethics and standards in interpretation.
Requirements
- At least one year of on-site consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience.
- Two professional references vouching for interpreting work.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent education.
- Full fluency in English and native or near-native proficiency in the target language.
- Accreditation from Washington State DSHS Language Testing and Certification, American Translation Association, or a higher education institution.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with Washington State agencies such as WA Department of L&I, WA State Patrol, WA Department of Agriculture, and WA Department of Commerce.
