About the position

The Network Engineer is responsible for the onsite build, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of network hardware and software. This role involves troubleshooting network issues, supporting IT and Informatics teams, and ensuring network performance and security. The position requires after-hours availability for on-call responsibilities and participation in network planning and architecture design.

Responsibilities

  • Build, implement, monitor, and maintain network hardware and software.
  • Research, analyze, and implement software patches or hardware changes to fix network deficiencies.
  • Support IT and Informatics teams in network-related tasks.
  • Evaluate new products and services for network optimization.
  • Participate in network planning, architecture design, and engineering.
  • Perform network problem resolution and assist in developing technical standards.
  • Design, install, and troubleshoot network systems, including wireless.
  • Conduct capacity and resource planning and assess network risks.
  • Maintain user documentation for network devices, including network diagrams.
  • Develop processes to inventory all network equipment and perform periodic audits.
  • Mentor new team members and provide formal training as needed.

Requirements

  • Network knowledge and experience in network design and implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Time-management skills and strong documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of LAN and network hardware configuration.
  • Experience in network performance tuning and end-user support.
  • Understanding of Print Management, DNS, DHCP, and Domain Controller Server roles.
  • Experience in network administration and knowledge of both local VPN and Site to Site VPN configuration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Cerner EHR is a plus.
  • BA in computer science, information technology, or engineering preferred.
  • Technical school graduate and/or voluntary certification may also be accepted.
