About the position

The Audio Engineer (A1) at Yorktel is responsible for the coordination, operation, and technical support of audio equipment and production for various events. This role involves mixing live audio, designing audio systems, and collaborating with production teams to ensure high-quality sound for services and events. The A1 will also lead and train audio technicians and volunteers, manage audio equipment, and play a key role in the strategic planning of live events.

Responsibilities

  • Mix live audio using digital and analog consoles to achieve desired levels and sound quality.
  • Design, implement, and oversee the setup of audio systems, including microphones, speakers, and mixers.
  • Collaborate with technical leads and production teams to meet audio requirements for services and events.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot audio equipment, ensuring readiness for live productions.
  • Train and lead other technicians and volunteers in the use of audio equipment and systems.
  • Manage, and/or operate, front of house and monitor audio consoles and mix for services and events, as scheduled.
  • Act as audio engineer, understanding the definition of desired levels and sound mix, as directed by management.
  • Coordinate and/or lead set-up and tear down for equipment, as directed by leadership.
  • Understand basic concepts including electrical safety, soundboards, cabling, circuits, music equipment, lighting, and video equipment.
  • Work closely with the media team in managing and operating audio equipment for daily and special events.
  • Oversee the inventory of equipment in use and coordinate gathering equipment for special events.
  • Play a significant role in the strategic planning of live events, delivering the production plan in advance.
  • Attend rehearsals and creative meetings, as required.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of sound and/or production engineering experience; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Training and/or education in media production or a related field is preferred.
  • Mastery knowledge of major digital audio consoles and sound reinforcement systems.
  • Broad knowledge of audio production practices and industry terminology.
  • Ability to train, develop, and cast vision to adults with energy and encouragement.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate, independent decisions under pressure.
  • Outstanding punctuality and flexibility to meet expectations of the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Apple iPad Pro for mobile and production support.
  • Familiarity with Barco video production switcher controllers.
  • Knowledge of Panasonic video camera controllers.
  • Experience with Riedel intercom systems and desktop smart panels.
  • Proficiency with Yamaha digital mixing consoles and I/O racks.
