About the position

The position involves providing in-person and/or online academic tutoring to students, specifically targeting those in the Upward Bound Central Prep program. The role is designed for teachers or school counselors currently employed at specific high schools or UCO students with a strong academic background. The tutor will create a positive learning environment and support students academically and personally, ensuring they meet their educational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and personal support to Upward Bound Central Prep participants at target schools.
  • Design and deliver meaningful and relevant academic tutoring in the assigned subject area.
  • Address individual learning styles to enhance strengths and mitigate weaknesses.
  • Assist during monthly Saturday Academies.
  • Maintain accurate and current student records and adhere to all deadlines.
  • Submit Tutorial Report Forms and Attendance Summaries each month.
  • Identify and recruit eligible students for participation in the program.
  • Monitor students' progress, attendance, and behavior throughout the semester.

Requirements

  • Requires a university degree in a related field or 2+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • Must be a teacher or school counselor currently employed at Crooked Oak High School, Capitol Hill High School, or Star Spencer High School, or a current UCO student with a GPA of 3.0 in the subject to be tutored.
  • Experience in applying expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Nice-to-haves

  • Evidence of strong organizational and professional skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Minimum of three (3) successful years of teaching experience in secondary schools.
  • Experience overcoming barriers similar to those faced by the target population.
  • Evidence of school, community, and parent involvement.
  • Strong teaching and professional code of ethics.
  • Written and oral proficiency in Spanish.
