About the position

The Onboarding Specialist for the College of Innovation and Design (CID/CBE) Student Support Services at Texas A&M University-Commerce plays a crucial role in the recruitment and onboarding of potential students. This position is primarily responsible for guiding prospective CID students through the application process, ensuring they are accepted into the university, and assisting them in declaring their program of study and enrolling in classes. The Onboarding Specialist will provide extensive customer service, as the role involves a wrap-around service model that supports students from their initial inquiry through their first term at the university. In this role, the Onboarding Specialist will collaborate with A&M-Commerce Admissions and Recruitment staff, as well as other campus partners, to identify and recruit potential CID students. They will assist these students in navigating the application process, including the review of transcripts and Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements. Once students are accepted, the Onboarding Specialist will help them declare their CID program of study and enroll in classes, ensuring a smooth transition into university life. Additionally, the Onboarding Specialist will connect students with ancillary services such as Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Disability Services, addressing any needs or concerns they may have as they enter the program. This position is headquartered at the A&M-Commerce Dallas site, with potential eligibility for remote work, and may require occasional work outside of normal business hours and on weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Work with A&M-Commerce Admissions and Recruitment staff and other campus partners to recruit and identify potential CID students.
  • Assist potential CID students to apply and be accepted into A&M-Commerce.
  • Assist with review of transcripts and TSI.
  • Assist accepted students to declare their CID program of study.
  • Assist CID students to enroll in classes through Orientation as well as their first term.
  • Directly connect students to ancillary services such as Financial Aid, Scholarships, Disability Services, etc.
  • Meet, refer, and follow-up with CID students regarding their needs and concerns when entering the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience in customer or student services.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Higher Education functions.
  • Knowledge of recruitment, retention, and marketing.
  • Customer service training or certification.
