About the position

The Onboarding Specialist at Mercury plays a crucial role in the compliance team, focusing on facilitating account openings for startups globally. This position requires balancing user experience with the need to identify and mitigate potential fraud, ensuring a seamless onboarding process for diverse clients ranging from tech startups to sustainable farms.

Responsibilities

• Conduct KYC, KYB reviews for companies that have signed up for Mercury
• Gather Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) via follow-up when necessary to better understand the customer at Onboarding
• Make overall application decisions and assign risk tiers for approved customers based on the identified customer profile
• Maintain a positive user experience in onboarding customers while mitigating potential fraud loss or risk to Mercury
• Escalate suspicious trends and accounts to Onboarding Leads and senior team members for further review
• Manage a high-volume caseload within service level agreements with critical attention to detail
• Gain a deep understanding of the types of customers signing up and adjust the product and user experience accordingly

Requirements

• Highly motivated self-starter comfortable working in a high-risk environment
• Ability to work efficiently and independently, knowing when to ask for help
• Experience working autonomously in a queue-based role, prioritizing work and maintaining an organized inbox
• Emphasis on quality with attention to detail to prevent fraud
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written communication skills
• Curiosity about the US banking system, startups, and ecommerce companies
