About the position
The One-to-One Paraprofessional will provide direct support to individual students under the supervision of a teacher, participating in daily instruction and activities tailored to the specific needs of students with various disabilities. This role is crucial in fostering an inclusive educational environment and ensuring that students receive the necessary assistance to thrive academically and socially.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct service to individual students with disabilities.
- Assist in daily instruction and activities of the school and class.
- Work with small groups of children instructionally.
- Support students with personal hygiene needs, including toileting and diapering.
- Assist the school nurse with tube feedings and other medical needs.
- Scribe and take notes for students as needed.
- Utilize language systems such as ASL, SEE 2, and communication boards.
- Implement behavior management strategies, including redirection and de-escalation techniques.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to implement lesson plans and activities.
- Communicate openly with parents and staff regarding student progress and needs.
- Perform other related duties as requested by the Head of School or Principal.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Forty-eight (48) Credit Hours of College Coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
- Experience working with students diagnosed with mild to moderate disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with parents, guardians, and educational staff.
- Flexibility to accommodate the needs of students and parents/guardians.
- Trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).
- Current authorization to work in the United States.

- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages such as Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
