About the position

The One to One Paraprofessional at Boston Public Schools is responsible for providing direct support to individual students with various disabilities under the supervision of a teacher. This role involves participating in daily instruction and activities tailored to the specific needs of the assigned student, which may include personal care and assistance with communication. The position is anticipated to be vacant, and the hire may start as a Long-Term Substitute if the vacancy does not occur by the school year start.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct service to individual students with disabilities.
• Assist in daily instruction and activities of the school and class.
• Work with small groups of children instructionally.
• Support students with personal hygiene, including toileting and diapering.
• Assist the school nurse with tube feedings and other medical needs.
• Implement language systems such as ASL, Braille, and communication boards.
• Utilize Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) techniques for behavior management.
• Collaborate with the classroom teacher to implement lesson plans.
• Maintain open communication with parents and staff.
• Perform other related duties as requested by the Head of School or Principal.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate's Degree, or passing score on ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate.
• Experience working with students diagnosed with mild to moderate disabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work with parents, administrators, teachers, and students.
• Flexibility to accommodate the needs of students and parents/guardians.
• Trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).
• Current authorization to work in the United States.

• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
