About the position
The One-to-One Paraprofessional position is designed to provide direct support to individual students with various disabilities in a school setting. This role involves assisting with daily instruction and activities tailored to the specific needs of the assigned student, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially. The position may begin as a Long-Term Substitute if the anticipated vacancy does not occur by the start of the school year.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct service to individual students under the supervision of the teacher.
- Assist with toileting, diapering, lifting, and transfers, and maintaining personal hygiene.
- Support the school nurse with tube feedings and other medical needs.
- Engage in scribing, note-taking, and using language systems such as ASL and Braille.
- Implement behavior management strategies, including redirection and de-escalation techniques.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to execute daily lesson plans and activities.
- Communicate openly with parents and staff regarding student progress and needs.
- Perform additional duties as requested by the Head of School or Principal, especially when the student is absent.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
- Experience working with students diagnosed with mild to moderate disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with parents, guardians, and educational staff.
- Flexibility to accommodate the needs of students and parents/guardians.
- Trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).
- Current authorization to work in the United States.

- Fluency in one of Boston Public Schools' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
