About the position

The School Based Building Substitute position at FRCS is a unique opportunity for educators to engage with a diverse student body in a vibrant school community. This role is designed for teachers who will be assigned to cover teacher absences for ten days or fewer, providing a consistent and cohesive learning experience for students. The position requires flexibility, as assignments may change daily, and it is essential for substitutes to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and teaching methods. The substitutes will report directly to the school principal, who will provide evaluation and coaching to support their professional development. The Elementary School serves approximately 750 students in grades K-4, and our dedicated team of over 80 staff members works collaboratively to ensure that all students have the tools they need to succeed. In addition to a standards-based curriculum, we offer opportunities for character building and language learning, including Spanish starting in Kindergarten. This position is grant-funded for one year, and it offers a chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students while being part of a supportive educational community.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
  • Participate in all school based professional development days and sessions
  • Other duties as assigned by the school principal

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree
  • Candidates are subject to background checks including, CORI clearance, and fingerprinting
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Nice-to-haves

  • Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License
  • Experience teaching in an urban school district
  • Candidates who speak an additional language are highly valued in our community
