About the position

The University of Montana Western is seeking a non-tenure-track instructor for a one-year sabbatical replacement in Environmental Sustainability. This position focuses on engaging undergraduate students through immersive, field-based learning experiences, utilizing the unique Experience One scheduling model. The successful candidate will teach a mix of lower and upper-level courses, fostering a student-centered educational environment that emphasizes experiential learning and project-based work.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a mix of lower and upper-level environmental sustainability courses.
  • Utilize the Experience One immersion scheduling model to engage students in field and project learning.
  • Provide authentic practice in environmental sustainability for undergraduate students.
  • Develop and propose new courses in environmental sustainability as needed.
  • Mentor and inspire students in their transition from university to professional careers.

Requirements

  • MS in Geography, Environmental Sciences, Ecology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate project-based learning using the Experience One scheduling model.
  • Commitment to experiential learning and innovative undergraduate education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctorate/ABD in Geography, Environmental Sciences, Ecology or a related field (preferred).
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching.
