About the position

The Online Instructional Designer at ESC Region 11 is responsible for providing effective online and blended learning design that aligns with best practices, leadership, professional development, technical assistance, and other related products and services for internal departments. This role is crucial in impacting campuses, districts, and charter schools to ensure improved student academic achievement. The designer will consult with both external and internal personnel on online and blended learning course design and development, ensuring that the educational materials meet the needs of diverse learners and adhere to established standards. The position requires a Master's Degree in education, instructional design, or instructional technology, along with a strong team-oriented attitude and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. The designer will actively participate in inter-departmental teams aimed at improving student performance and enhancing the ESC's internal operations. Responsibilities include developing instructional design projects from inception to completion, providing support to internal consultants, and assisting in the creation of course content and instructional strategies. The designer will also be involved in developing graphics, audio, video, animation, and interactive design elements, as well as performing online course reviews and recommending online learning technology solutions. This role demands excellent organizational, public relations, and interpersonal skills, as well as a deep knowledge of LMS design tools, particularly Canvas. The designer will be expected to maintain professional composure under stress, manage frequent interruptions, and ensure confidentiality while working with various stakeholders in the education community. The position may also qualify for a hybrid work environment, requiring both in-office and remote work, depending on the deliverables and project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective online and blended learning design that aligns with best practices.
  • Consult with external and internal personnel on online and blended learning course design and development.
  • Actively participate in and/or provide leadership of inter-departmental teams to improve student performance.
  • Respond as the first point of contact to all stakeholders in the education community.
  • Participate in designated local, state, and national professional development activities.
  • Develop instructional design projects from inception to completion.
  • Provide instructional design and course development support to internal consultants.
  • Assist in the development of course content and instructional strategies, including course materials and assessment techniques.
  • Develop graphics, audio, video, animation, and interactive design elements.
  • Perform online course reviews and apply design principles.
  • Research and recommend online learning technology solutions.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in education, instructional design, or instructional technology or equivalent, preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related training and course development experience.
  • Experience with learning management systems, preferably Canvas.
  • Experience with eLearning authoring tools such as Camtasia, Illustrator, H5P, and Storyline.
  • Deep knowledge of LMS design tools and instructional design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories, instructional strategies, and curriculum development.
  • Strong organizational, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards for web-based content.

Nice-to-haves

  • Online teaching and/or instructional design experience, preferred.
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience, preferred.
