About the position

DeVry University is seeking dedicated and knowledgeable industry professionals to join our team as Online Visiting Professors for Accounting and Finance. This role is designed for individuals who possess a Master's degree and have a passion for sharing their expertise in a virtual learning environment. As an Adjunct Faculty member, you will be responsible for teaching practitioner-based programs during the day, evening, and/or Saturday sessions. Your primary goal will be to facilitate student learning by delivering high-quality educational courses and programs that align with DeVry University's standards and requirements. In this position, you will develop course syllabi and lesson plans that adhere to the established templates provided by the local campus. You will also be expected to regularly organize, prepare, and update all course materials to ensure they remain relevant and engaging for students. Utilizing appropriate technological tools for online education, including websites, email, and online discussion platforms, will be essential in making course content accessible and interactive for students. Effective communication is key in this role. You will model both oral and written communication skills that engage students, provide clarity, and enhance their learning experience. Setting clear expectations for the course is crucial, which includes publishing terminal objectives, assignment and examination dates, and the weight distribution of various evaluation categories. You will ensure that the content and level of material included in exams correspond to the course objectives, demonstrating consistency and fairness in grading while providing timely feedback to students. Additionally, you will complete other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the academic program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide students with an approved DeVry University syllabus that follows a template established by the local campus, including terminal course objectives.
  • Organize, prepare, and regularly revise and update all course materials.
  • Utilize appropriate technological options for online technologies and course-related software, including websites, email, and online discussions for course preparation and accessibility.
  • Model effective oral and written communications that engage students, provide clarity, and improve student learning.
  • Set clear expectations for the course by publishing course terminal objectives, assignment/examination dates, and weight distribution of various evaluation categories.
  • Ensure that the content and level of material included on exams correspond to the course terminal objectives.
  • Demonstrate consistency and fairness in the preparation and grading of exams and provide timely feedback to students.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD with 18 credit hours within the course of study.
  • Qualifying credentials must be awarded by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Administration, or by an international institution determined to hold equivalent accreditation.
  • Requisite subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills.
  • Excellent motivational and instructional skills in a diverse and non-traditional environment.
  • Ability to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in online teaching or virtual education environments.
  • Familiarity with course management systems and online teaching tools.
