About the position

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our innovative Virtual Command Center (VCC) team. This unique position allows nurses to deliver patient care remotely, utilizing advanced technology to conduct virtual nursing rounds. The VCC is designed to enhance patient care while minimizing exposure to contagious diseases and reducing the need for personal protective equipment (PPE). As a Virtual RN, you will be responsible for assessing and caring for patients through video conferencing, ensuring that they receive the same high level of care as they would in person. This role not only challenges your nursing skills but also allows you to develop a wide variety of nursing knowledge in a supportive environment. In this position, you will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to create, implement, and monitor care plans tailored to each patient's needs. Your ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations will be crucial as you coordinate resources and provide timely interventions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inpatient nursing, a high degree of comfort with technology, and a passion for delivering quality care to patients in a virtual setting. Responsibilities

  • Provide patients with virtual health assessments and treatment solutions from the Virtual Command Center.
  • Create, implement, and monitor care plans in collaboration with other care teams.
  • Utilize technology such as video conferencing and electronic charting to deliver patient care.
  • Respond quickly and effectively in emergency scenarios, coordinating necessary resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited Nursing Program or currently enrolled in a program.
  • Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter - Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire, with acceptable certifications from recognized bodies such as the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years in a clinical focus area required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) preferred.
  • Master's degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) accepted.
