About the position

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is seeking a part-time Onsite Virtual Nurse to deliver patient care through remote bedside nursing from our new Virtual Command Center (VCC) located in the Medical Center. This innovative role allows nurses to assess and care for patients using video conferencing technology, providing virtual health assessments and treatment solutions. The Virtual RN will work primarily with patients admitted to our Medical/Surgical/Telemetry units, ensuring they receive high-quality care while minimizing exposure to contagious diseases and reducing the need for personal protective equipment (PPE). The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program, with a preference for those who are currently enrolled in a master's program or hold a master's degree in nursing as a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). The role requires a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Iowa, along with certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) within six weeks of hire. In this position, the nurse will create, implement, and monitor care plans in collaboration with other care teams, demonstrating a high degree of comfort with technology and the ability to think and act quickly in emergency scenarios. Responsibilities

• Provide patients with virtual health assessments and treatment solutions from the Virtual Command Center.
• Create, implement, and monitor care plans in collaboration with other care teams.
• Utilize technology such as video conferencing and electronic charting effectively.
• Respond quickly and effectively in emergency scenarios and coordinate resources.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited Nursing Program or currently enrolled in a program.
• Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Iowa.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter - Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.
• Basic Life Support certified within six weeks of hire.
• Minimum of eight years in clinical focus area preferred.
• Three years of leadership experience, including Charge RN experience, required.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) preferred.
• Master's degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) accepted.
