About the position
MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our innovative Virtual Command Center (VCC) team. This unique position allows the RN to deliver patient care through remote bedside nursing, utilizing advanced technology to assess and care for patients admitted to our Medical/Surgical/Telemetry units. The Virtual RN will work on-site at our central HUB located outside the medical center in Des Moines, Iowa, and will not have the option to work remotely from home. This role is designed for an RN, BSN candidate who possesses acute care experience and is comfortable with technology, particularly video conferencing and electronic charting. In this role, the Virtual RN will be responsible for conducting virtual health assessments and providing treatment solutions from the VCC. The nurse will create, implement, and monitor care plans in collaboration with other care teams, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care while minimizing their exposure to contagious diseases. This innovative approach not only enhances patient safety but also reduces the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while maintaining the same level of care. The ideal candidate will be able to think and act quickly in emergency scenarios, coordinating resources effectively to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities
- Provide patients with virtual health assessments and treatment solutions from the Virtual Command Center.
- Create, implement, and monitor care plans in collaboration with other care teams.
- Utilize technology such as video conferencing and electronic charting to deliver patient care.
- Think and act quickly in emergency scenarios and coordinate resources effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited Nursing Program or currently enrolled in a program.
- Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter - Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire.
- Minimum of eight (8) years in clinical focus area preferred.
- Three (3) years leadership experience (including Charge RN experience) required.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) preferred.
- Master's degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) accepted.
