About the position

The Onsite Waste Technician at Clean Harbors is responsible for handling, segregating, packing, and inspecting chemical waste in compliance with various regulations. This role involves working both indoors and outdoors at various sites, including plants and customer locations, and requires strong customer service skills. The position is entry-level but offers significant opportunities for career advancement within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste according to regulations.
  • Assist with lab packs, household hazardous waste collections, and lab moves at customer facilities.
  • Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and notifications for land disposal restrictions.
  • Perform inspections of staging, accumulating, and storage areas to ensure compliance and proper housekeeping procedures.
  • Collect, segregate, and package waste chemicals for disposal efficiently and in compliance with regulations.
  • Execute jobs at customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Conduct projects according to site-specific federal, state, and local regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Sample and profile new waste streams or waste needing analytical testing.
  • Ensure drum count accuracy and that drum conditions are compliant for shipping.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with DOT and other regulations.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment.
  • Perform physical functions as required by the job.
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical.

Nice-to-haves

  • College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science.
  • Previous experience in Environmental Services such as remediation or emergency spill response.
