About the position

The OP L1 Pharmacy Technician position at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, is responsible for performing a variety of technical and clerical functions associated with providing ambulatory pharmaceutical services. Responsibilities

  • Perform technical and clerical functions associated with providing ambulatory pharmaceutical services.
  • Prepare medications accurately and efficiently under the supervision of licensed pharmacists.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, including proper ordering from approved vendors to ensure adequate stock based on demand.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in mathematical calculations required for medication preparation.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new pharmacy staff members.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • One of the following must be met: 6 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician Level 1 experience, completion of Shands Hospital Technician Training Program, current enrollment in the program with consent, completion of Military Hospital Core School, completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program, or one year of relevant experience in hospital or retail pharmacy.
  • Active Status as a certified pharmacy technician with PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and Laminar Air Flow Hood experience is preferred.
  • Ability to operate a typewriter, calculator, and computer workstation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of repackaging and compounding techniques.
  • Experience transcribing/interpreting physician orders with science-based college level study.
