About the position

GMS is seeking experienced Open Pit and Mill Electricians for our operations in Southern Arizona. This position is crucial for maintaining the electrical systems that power our large surface mining and milling operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mining and electrical work, demonstrating the ability to safely maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical power and control systems and equipment. The role requires a commitment to safety and efficiency, ensuring that all electrical systems operate smoothly and effectively in a challenging outdoor environment. As an Open Pit and Mill Electrician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing power distribution circuits, switchgear, motors, and motor control systems with voltages up to 13.8KV. You will also be tasked with installing, troubleshooting, and repairing hard-wired control logic and PLC control systems. The position involves operating various equipment, including boom trucks and fork trucks, to facilitate electrical maintenance and repair tasks. This role is essential to the overall success of our mining operations, and we are looking for individuals who are ready to contribute their skills and expertise immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Safely maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical power and control systems and equipment throughout a large surface mining and milling operation.
  • Safely maintain and repair power distribution circuits, switchgear, motors, and motor control systems with voltages up to 13.8KV.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair hard-wired control logic and PLC control systems.
  • Operate equipment including boom trucks, fork trucks, and other equipment associated with electrical maintenance and repair.

Requirements

  • MSHA Part 48 certification.
  • A minimum of at least 5 years of experience in Mining.
  • High proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematic, one-line, logic, and interconnection diagrams and drawings.
  • Working knowledge and experience in medium and low voltage power distribution systems and equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, and protective relaying and fusing. Experience above 13KV is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of process instrumentation used for level, pressure, flow, and position control.
  • Must be able to perform preventive maintenance and repair procedures on all types of electrical and electronic systems, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts, rotating days off, and overtime as required.
  • Outdoor maintenance duties are required and are subject to prevailing inclement weather conditions.
  • Must have or be able to attain a valid Driver's License.
  • Basic ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Mine Equipment electrical troubleshooting and repair is a plus.
