About the position

The School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) is seeking to fill multiple open-rank tenure system faculty positions in the Department of Biological Sciences. These positions are available at the Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor levels, and the department is particularly focused on three priority areas for hiring: biochemistry, especially related to metabolic disorders, cancer, and other human diseases; bioinformatics and computational biology; and neurobiology. The department is looking for candidates who can address significant questions in biological and biomedical research, particularly those who utilize novel interdisciplinary, computational, and experimental approaches. Candidates will be expected to lead outstanding research and teaching programs that complement the existing strengths of the department and synergize with other departments within the school and across the university. The Department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant community that values effective training for both graduate and undergraduate students. Ideal candidates will be accomplished researchers, mentors, and educators who are dedicated to the success of all students and trainees in both classroom and laboratory settings. Successful candidates will find a highly engaging and collaborative intellectual environment at UT Dallas, which features state-of-the-art research facilities to support advanced transdisciplinary research activities. The appointment is set to commence for the fall 2025 semester.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Prepare and teach undergraduate and/or graduate classes.
  • Contribute assessment information and data as requested.
  • Mentor and/or advise undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Establish and/or continue an independent line of research.
  • Continue to expand professional influence in the academic discipline through research and/or publication.
  • Engage in service within the academic unit, the university, and the profession as appropriate based on teaching and research constraints.
  • Teach three (3) classes each academic year.

Requirements

  • A PhD or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, computational biology, or a related discipline is required prior to employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline.
  • Ability to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience and/or experience in mentorship of junior scientists is strongly preferred.
  • Postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field and the potential to secure extramural funding for Assistant Professor level.
  • A track record of research productivity and external funding commensurate with the rank for Associate and Full Professor positions.
