About the position

The University of Houston is seeking a non-tenure track Open Rank/Open Specialty Clinical Faculty - Associate Dean for Medical Education. This leadership role is pivotal in overseeing the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the four-year MD program curriculum. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective learning experiences and compliance with accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review the four-year MD program curriculum to align with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with faculty and curriculum committees to implement innovative teaching methods.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and development opportunities for curricular leaders and faculty.
  • Develop and enhance external educational partnerships and ensure adequacy of clinical sites for students.
  • Monitor curriculum effectiveness through regular assessment and evaluation.
  • Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the Center for Clinical Arts, Skills, and Experiential Learning (CCASEL).
  • Ensure integration of the clinical skills curriculum with the overall medical education program.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the medical school related to education.
  • Recruit, lead, supervise, and develop staff in the Office of Medical Education.
  • Prepare and oversee the budget for the office of medical education.
  • Collaborate with the office of assessment to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Lead efforts to address areas for improvement identified through accreditation reviews.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs to foster a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution, with board certification in a clinical specialty preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in medical education leadership, with evidence of success in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Managerial experience, including direct reports, budgeting, and faculty and staff development.
  • Experience with achieving accreditation standards and compliance with regulations governing medical education programs.
  • Experience with clinical skills training, simulation-based education, and educational technology platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced academic environment.
