About the position

The University of Houston is seeking an Open Rank/Open Specialty Clinical Faculty member to serve as the Associate Dean for Medical Education. This non-tenure track position is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the MD program curriculum, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and fostering a positive learning environment. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance educational experiences and manage the office of medical education and its staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review the four-year MD program curriculum to align with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with faculty and curriculum committees to implement innovative teaching methods and learner-centered strategies.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and development opportunities for curricular leaders and faculty.
  • Enhance external educational partnerships and ensure adequacy of clinical sites for students.
  • Monitor curriculum effectiveness through regular assessment and evaluation, making data-driven improvements.
  • Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the Center for Clinical Arts, Skills, and Experiential Learning (CCASEL).
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the medical school, aligning educational goals with the institution's mission.
  • Recruit, lead, supervise, and develop staff in the Office of Medical Education.
  • Prepare and oversee the budget for the office of medical education and related centers.
  • Collaborate with the office of assessment to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and lead quality improvement efforts.
  • Foster a positive learning environment in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution, with board certification in a clinical specialty preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in medical education leadership, with evidence of success in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Managerial experience, including direct reports and budgeting.
  • Experience with achieving accreditation standards and compliance with medical education regulations.
  • Experience with clinical skills training and simulation-based education.
