About the position

The Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston is seeking a non-tenure track Open Rank/Open Specialty Clinical Faculty - Associate Dean for Medical Education. This leadership role is pivotal in overseeing the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the four-year MD program curriculum. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective integration of educational components, fostering innovative learning experiences, and ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the four-year MD program curriculum.
  • Collaborate with deans, chairs, departments, faculty, clinical affiliates, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead initiatives to foster innovative and effective learning experiences.
  • Supervise the office of medical education and its staff, including the Center for Clinical Arts, Skills, and Experiential Learning (CCASEL).
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Develop, implement, and review the MD program curriculum to align with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor curriculum effectiveness through regular assessment and evaluation.
  • Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for CCASEL, including staffing and resource allocation.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the medical school, particularly in education-related areas.
  • Recruit, lead, supervise, and develop staff in the Office of Medical Education.
  • Prepare and oversee the budget for the office of medical education.
  • Collaborate with the office of assessment to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Create and foster a positive and effective learning environment for students.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution, with board certification in a clinical specialty preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in medical education leadership, with evidence of success in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Managerial experience, including direct reports, budgeting, and faculty and staff development.
  • Experience with achieving accreditation standards and compliance with regulations governing medical education programs.
  • Experience with clinical skills training, simulation-based education, and educational technology platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced academic environment.
