About the position
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking an open-rank faculty member in Philosophy with a focus on Bioethics, Philosophy of Medicine, or a closely related field. This tenure-track position aims to enhance the department's MS in Bioethics by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, securing grant funding, and recruiting graduate students. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching both in-person and online courses, engaging in research that addresses real-world issues in healthcare, and supporting the university's commitment to serving a diverse student body.
Responsibilities
- Lead faculty collaboration across various disciplines to enhance the MS in Bioethics program.
- Teach in-person and online courses related to Bioethics and Philosophy of Medicine.
- Engage in research that addresses social, political, and ethical issues in healthcare.
- Seek grant funding to support departmental initiatives and research projects.
- Recruit graduate students for the MS in Bioethics program.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Philosophy, Bioethics, Healthcare Ethics, or a closely related field required by Fall 2025.
- Evidence of active research and scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications.
- Potential to effectively teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- For Associate Professor rank: sustained record of high-quality research and experience in teaching and mentoring.
- For Professor rank: exemplary record of peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research.
- Engagement with issues relevant to the Rio Grande Valley and culturally minoritized communities.
