About the position

The University of Iowa is seeking two tenure-track faculty members in the English Education program within the Department of Teaching and Learning. These positions, which can be at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor, will commence on August 20, 2025. The successful candidates will engage in research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and advise students in English Education and Literacy, Culture, and Language Education. The role emphasizes collaboration with faculty, staff, and the community to promote diversity and inclusion in education.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an active program of research and build a scholarly research agenda in education.
  • Design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in teacher education.
  • Advise MA students in English Education and PhD students in the Literacy, Culture, and Language Education program.
  • Pursue and secure external funding for research.
  • Contribute to national and international scholarship in English Education.
  • Engage in local, state, and national activities that support the practice of English Education.
  • Participate in service to the program, department, college, and university.
  • Collaborate with teachers in K12 classrooms for at least 4 hours per semester.

Requirements

  • Earned a doctorate in English Education or a related discipline by August 1, 2025.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity or promise of scholarly productivity (rank dependent).
  • Experience in English Education instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Teaching expertise in areas such as writing pedagogy, young adult literature, secondary reading, and critical literacy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful experience teaching in K-12 settings.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching skills at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in English/literacy Education at the secondary level.
  • A record of securing external funds for research, training, and program development.
  • Interest in building partnerships across campus and with local schools and communities.
