About the position

The Director of the Open-Source Project Office (OSPO) is responsible for developing and executing an enterprise-wide Open-Source strategy, ensuring compliance with licenses, and fostering contributions to Open-Source projects. This role involves creating educational materials, managing contributor agreements, and leading initiatives to promote Open-Source engagement within the organization. The OSPO director will also oversee product management strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market needs.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute an enterprise-wide Open-Source strategy with metrics for tracking objectives.
  • Drive interactions with Open-Source communities and manage contributions to Open-Source projects.
  • Develop and maintain Open-Source educational materials for potential contributors.
  • Ensure compliance with Open-Source licenses and internal Intellectual Property guidelines.
  • Set up a review board for Open-Source activities, including license compliance and IP reviews.
  • Define policies on permissible levels of contribution to Open-Source projects.
  • Create an inventory of software used and ensure compliance with acceptable licenses.
  • Lead efforts to encourage enterprise developers to contribute to Open-Source.
  • Organize Open-Source training boot camps and mentoring programs.
  • Provide people management leadership, including hiring, goal setting, and performance management.
  • Formulate strategy and policy for product development and management.
  • Conduct market research and analyze competitive offerings.
  • Develop product roadmaps and ensure alignment with customer needs.
  • Consult with executive management on marketing initiatives and product strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or progressive work experience in a related field.
  • 10+ years of related experience in product management or Open-Source initiatives.
  • Proven senior management leadership skills to lead a team of product management experts.
  • Ability to develop and drive product strategies throughout the organization.
  • Experience in product research, analysis, and development.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative business relationships.
  • Experience in project management and delivering on time and within budget.
  • Expert knowledge of current and emerging competitor and market trends.
  • High proficiency in preparing and managing budgets and P&L.
